Tracheotomy as an Important Procedure for Thoracic Emergency

Abstract
Following serious thoracic injury or extensive thoracotomy, recovery of the Patient frequently depends largely upon meticulous attention to keeping the tracheobronchial tree clear of blood and secretions. To accomplish this objective special nursing technics intratracheal catheter suction is frepuently required and bronchoscopic aspiration may occasionally be necessary. In certain situa-tions, however, all of these measures are inadequate or ineffctual and a direct surgical approach to the problem by tracheotomy is required.
Recently the increased utilization of this simple procedure has gained wide acceptance and especially attributed to "traumatic" or "post operative" "pneumonia," ¢¥heart failure and lung congestion" or "traumatic wet lung." Several categories of patients in whom the procedure has been utilized was considered.
Technical aspects of the operation and certain considerations in after care, which are elieved to be of practical value, were presented.
